I love it when characters take on characteristics and qualities that you would never have expected them to take.

I love it when they start to breathe and all you've left to do is try and keep up with them.

  1. My stupid characters have gotten far ahead of me. Can't even keep them under control anymore.

  2. lol i know that feeling. Sometimes I feel like all I'm doing is playing catch up.

Though I have one character - the antaognist actually - who won't speak and won't tell me anything, so I dunno what's going on with him. It's hard to write about him when he won't tell me anything about himself. I'm getting slightly frustrated.

  3. Make him you.

Obviously you don't have to take that advice. I am in no position to dispense authoral wisdom, as though I'm some sort of expert. But sometimes I find the best way to make a character who is not the protagonist more real is to fill in the blanks with your own answers for the question.
